A Christmas MIRACLE!

Christmas must really be the time of miracles, because I sure experienced one this past Christmas Eve. No, an angel didn't descend upon my room and bring me tidings of comfort and joy and no, I did not have some life changing encounter with the Christmas Spirit akin to that of Ebenezer Scrooge or the Grinch.

No, no, my miracle is a lot less story-book like and a lot more superficial, but it was a miracle nonetheless in my option.

Okay, the story:

So, twas the night before christmas and I was visiting my friends at their house. (...I could continue this story in the pattern of the night before christmas story, but its the end of the day and I'm running out of creative juice, so sorry, no rhymes for you readers).

Anyway, so I was at their house and we were about to leave to go to a Christmas Eve service at their church in Temecula. I had brought my stuff with me into their house, but then I had to pack it all back in my car, because I was going to spend the night at my aunt's house.

I was running late and had to take a separate car, so I ran outside with my stuff and quickly packed everything into the passenger seat, drove to church, and had a jolly old time.

Then I drove to my aunt's condo, 20 minutes away, settled my stuff, and started watching "It's a Wonderful Life" with my cousin Stephanie. Midway into the movie, I decided to check my email, when it dawned on me, I don't think I brought my laptop into the condo. I looked around and it was nowhere to be found. I went out to my car and searched every nook and cranny and I started to panic. I must have left it at my friend's house, I thought.

So I came back into the condo, grabbed my keys, and told my cousin I had to go back to Temecula to pick up my computer.

On the drive over, I started to replay those moments before I drove to church. I remembered taking my laptop out of the house....and I went straight to the car, and I packed all the stuff in the car. So why wasn't the laptop in the car? And then. I came to a startling realization. OH.MY.GOD....I SET MY LAPTOP ON TOP OF THE CAR AND I DONT REMEMBER TAKING IT OFF. My heart started to beat rapidly and I felt a rush of blood go to my face. Was I really THAT stupid??? Did I really leave my NEW macbook on top of my car and forget to put it inside??? Yes, I thought. I really was that stupid.

So as I neared Temecula, I resolved to drive to the place where I parked, fully expecting to find my macbook in pieces on the street. Dont cry dont cry dont cry I told myself. It's just a laptop. You'll find it broken on the street and just need to move on. I cried anyway. And then I said a prayer, "God, please somehow preserve my laptop. I know its a petty and material thing to ask, and I know I don't deserve it, but please have mercy on this forgetful girl! I don't know if I can handle another loss right now. How emo. Amen."

When I got to the place I parked my car, there was no laptop to be found. Okay, so that means it must have fallen later on. Crap. So I began to retrace my path. I drove down the first residential street, no laptop. Turned the corner to another residential street, still no laptop. Then I turned to a MAIN street right by my high school and held my breath. I drove slowly, looking at the street as I went. And then. I saw it! On the side of the road, in the bike lane. I slammed on the breaks, put on my emergency lights, and jumped out of the car to grab what I could only assume would be a pile of scrap metal at this point. But I picked up my laptop, slipped it out of its thin fabric cover, and found it on one piece.

I brought it into my car and braced myself as I opened the computer. And low and behold, IT WORKED. No cracks. No pieces missing. I tested out every program. And everything was working as if nothing happened! I sat there in shock, wondering how it was physically possible for a laptop to be flung across the street from a car going 40 miles an hour and still remain intact.

When I came back to the condo, I told the story to my cousin and she was amazed as well. We began to think of all the different things that could have gone wrong. First of all, it had been FOUR HOURS from the time it dropped to the time I eventually found it. It could have rained, someone could have stolen it, but it just sat there unharmed during that whole time. Also, I was driving in the left lane, and when I found the laptop, it was all the way in the bike lane on the other side. What if it had just fallen in the driving lane? It would have been crushed by a car for sure. And it must have fallen in a very particular way for it to have rolled two lanes over and not get cracked even a bit. Also, it fell just a few inches short of the gutter water, which would have damaged it for sure. What if had fallen on the freeway???

All these different scenarios of what could have gone wrong but in a very unlikely event, my laptop flew off my car and landed on the ground, virtually unharmed. Now, THAT my friends, is a Christmas miracle! I'd like to believe it was God having mercy on me in a difficult time. Lol.

So that's the story readers. One day it will be made into a picture book that everyone can put on the shelf during the holidays, alongside the Grinch Who Stole Christmas and A Christmas Carol. :)

And yes, I am writing this blog using my miracle laptop.

Merry Christmas Everyone.
